We woke up at 7:45 to a delicious breakfast of bagels and strawberries. After putting on our finest Navajoland attire (aka. sundresses and khaki shorts), we headed to church. Father Red gave a sermon on the importance of weed...oops...we mean, weeds. And we led the church in the hymn the Bread of Life (of Easter Sunday fame at All Saints). After coffee hour we headed to a second service at John the Baptizer in Montezuma Creek, which had more Navajo in it. We tried not to butcher their language, unsuccessfully. We scrounged for lunch (3 cheers for PB&J!), played some intense games of Bananagrams, and then drove about an hour and a half to Cortez. There, we passed multiple posters advertising the search for a scantily clad Miss Four Corners. Logan entered. Then we went to Antonio's Taqueria, whose food was pretty much summed up by the warning on their menu: "We do wash all of our beans, but occasionally a rock slips through." Kelsi found a hair in her rice, Rachel contemplated chugging salsa for money, and Jamie continued to have digestion problems. And despite the multiple warnings from our waitress to not touch the hot plates, many of us indeed touched the (truly) hot plates. Before heading to the movies, we hit up some Dairy Queen, where Charlie Tamm sat in a high chair and Ben and Will almost killed each other in a rousing game of Let's Push Each Other. Then while the leaders went shopping, the kids saw one of two movies: Harry Potter 7, Pt.2 or Transformers 3 (both in 3D). Harry Potter was obviously a hit, while the 4 kids who saw Transformers 3 were divided in their reviews. Karlyn, Margaret, and Christina's flight was delayed, so Maggie waited for them at the Cortez airport, which was closed until their arrival. Meanwhile, the rest of us went back to the community center, had evening prayer, and went to sleep. Happy trails to you (until we meet again)!
Mucho love,
Ben and Jenna
