All Saints' Episcopal Church

DAY 5 - July 19th, 2011

Today was a day unlike any other day. Okay, it was like yesterday, except better. It started stereotypically: most of the teenagers failed, yet again, to wake up on time. For breakfast, Jamie Bando, Kelsi, Sidney, and Charlie C. toasted up some delicious bagels, eggs and sausages. During VBS, Will, Charlie T., Mae, and Natasha led all the kids in some fun songs, wonderful stories, and horribly messy arts and crafts. After the songs, the kids played soccer, and the CAST kids basked in their victory over small children. Other than that, VBS proceeded as normally. Oh, the kids ate hot dogs, and Jamie Bando has now been christened The Ketchup Man, for he was wearing a HeinzÒ Ketchup Shirt, and was in charge of making sure that all the hot dogs were thoroughly ketchup'ed.

After VBS, the CAST kids lazed about, taking far too long to clean, on account of our laziness. Then, in the late afternoon, we drove off to meet a geologist that Father Red knows. This fellow, named Gene Fouchet, was amazing. Imagine the coolest grandfather (he was getting on in years) and multiply him by a thousand. That might bring you within the range of how cool Gene is, but not likely. Gene led us to a perilous cliff, where people nearly fell off (Not really. The CAST leaders have a fantastic ability to keep teenagers from dying) Amazingly, Margaret and Annliese helped their friend Natasha back up instead of pushing her off to avoid further horse/Jonas Brothers references.

Gene then took us on a hike down the cliff to ANOTHER CLIFF. There, he taught us about the differences between the layers of rock, and what that shows about the history of the earth. He then helped Jenna, Christina, Ben, and Margaret grill the group hamburgers and hotdogs. After dinner, he regaled us with stories about prospecting for uranium, traveling to South America with a gang of Norwegians, and the adventures of Teddy Roosevelt in the Amazon. Sadly, our time with Gene came to an end and we drove back to the community center.

Once we touched base at the community center, the entire gang started an epic game of Celebrity. For those unfamiliar with the game, the group is split into two teams. Every person writes the names of three celebrities on separate pieces of paper and puts all the papers into a bowl. Each player has 30 seconds to get his or her team to guess who the celebrity is. Round one, the player can use words and hand motions, second round, only one word is allowed, and the third round, only pantomiming. The papers included, Tom Felton (one of Margaret’s many husbands), Chris Ellis (4 times. Most people used the word “old”, but Will and Natasha decided “Man Purse” worked better), Coffee (Ben’s Name from the Bishops Ball), Logan (3 times), Will (2 times), and Natasha’s horse, City. Sadly, everyone got that one easily. The MVP of the game was Abrienne for her frantic pantomiming of childbirth, while pointing at Karlyn. The celebrity: Langston Brown.

Remember: At Navajoland, you learn everything you never wanted to know about your fellow CAST mates.

-With lots of love,

Will, Natasha, Mae and Charlie
