Craig Phillips came to All Saints' in 1989 after receiving his doctorate from the Eastman School of Music, and he is termed "one of the most gifted young composers for organ in the United States." He often plays the organ in our services, as well as performing in many of the Music Guild Programs at All Saints', such as Chamber Music in the Chapel.
While we like to take credit for "allowing" Craig to do what he does, it is his own discipline and dedication to his craft which make him an example of what one can accomplish with the talents given by God. Come to church one Sunday, and you'll notice the following: after the worship service is complete and the choir and clergy have led the way out of the building, most of the congregation sits back down until the completion of the Postlude. When it is complete, the church bursts into applause. If you're in that congregation, it is possible that you just heard a Phillips composition. Craig is one of the reasons that All Saints' Music is renowned for its quality, and he shares his gift with us week after week. |
