Interim Announcement by The Vestry
We are pleased to announce that the Vestry has voted unanimously to call the Reverend Mary Haddad to serve as our Interim Pastor. She has accepted and will be joining us on January 3rd. Mary is currently the Canon Pastor at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, where she has served as rector of the congregation for the last 3 years.
Mary has a deep love for All Saints'. She was on staff here from 1993 - 1997. She began by living onsite as our property caretaker, became our Verger and a few years later discerned her call to the priesthood here at All Saints'. She is a graduate of New York's General Theological Seminary and served as Senior Associate Rector at St. Bartholomew's in New York City for seven years.
Those of you who know Mary know how amazing it will be to have her here, and those of you who have yet to meet Mary are in for a real treat. After helping us say goodbye to Carol on January 10th Mary plans to roll up her sleeves and, working alongside Gabri, Maryetta, Barry and the All Saints' staff, do what she does best - preach, teach and be a pastor to our congregation.
By early 2010 we hope to call our new rector and we expect him or her to arrive here next summer. The latest information about the search will be available at the Rector Search Forums next Sunday, October 25th following the 9, 10:15, and 11:15 services.
We'd also like to update you on our current Associates, all of whom are delighted with the choice of Mary Haddad.
Gabri will be continuing as our Senior Associate Rector during this transition time.
Maryetta, as some of you know, is the founding Head of The Episcopal School of Los Angeles (www.es-la.com), a new independent Episcopal School serving the eastern side of the city. The School's mission is To serve the heart of the city and will draw together a student body that reflects the economic, racial, and religious face of Los Angeles. Beginning in January, Maryetta will transition into this position on a full-time basis and be with All Saints' on a part-time basis on the weekends. While her role will change in the parish, Maryetta looks forward to building a close relationship between the school and the church.
Barry will continue to lead the 10:15 service and Se7en, our alternative service that meets the first Sunday evening of each month. He will continue to preach here in the main church, teach our mid-week classes, share pastoral care and fulfill all the responsibilities of a full-time associate.
This time of transition will be an important time for our parish, as we reconcile our feelings of loss and anticipation. We ask that you pray for all our clergy, our staff and our church. Pray that this will be a time of peace, loving fellowship and spiritual growth.
If you have any questions, please ask a member of the Vestry. We're usually on the patio or near the donuts. We are a great parish blessed with God's love and will continue to be a great parish.
"Thanks be to God."
