Choral Services and Taizé

In addition to our Sunday morning services at 10 am, the All Saints’ Choirs offer a wide variety of meditative opportunities to worship amid the sacred sounds of the great choral music of all ages, from ancient plainchant, to classic masterpieces, to premieres of modern works.

Evensong & Lessons and Carols

Evensong, or sung Evening Prayer, has provided a daily opportunity for stillness, meditation, prayer and praise in cathedrals, chapels, and great parish churches of England since the 16th century, and is sung today throughout the Anglican Communion.

The service of Lessons & Carols, as adapted over a century ago at King’s College in Cambridge, has become one of the most beloved services throughout the Anglican world. It is presented at All Saints’ in both Advent and Christmas versions.

Meditation and Prayer in the Style of Taizé

Periodically on Wednesday evenings, amid the candlelit glow of our sanctuary, our quiet evening service is a peaceful way to relax into the weekend.

This worship tradition began many years ago in the ecumenical French monastic community called Taizé. Held in the darkened and richly-resonant space of our beautiful Church, our Taizé services provide an uncomplicated framework for quiet meditation, reflection, readings, and music, warmed by candlelight and the parish icon of Christ, creating a warm and intimate resting place.

There is no sermon, but we do serve communion during Taizé. The experience finds meaning through the active participation of all assembled, focusing and deepening our faith through the power of meditative prayer. All are encouraged to participate as the Spirit moves them, whether in song, prayer, or quiet meditation.

This liturgy, developed around the Taizé community, is primarily for the worship of God, but also works to quiet the soul through musical repetition, periods of silence, and slow readings, each of which help to instill a deep quiet in our hearts.
